A glowing object that appeared to be burning as it drifted across the sky above the Peruvian capital Lima, has got UFO experts in a tizzy.

The object, which was captured on film, was spotted by hundreds of people.

There were also local media reports that a similar ‘burning UFO’ was spotted by those living in the Highlands and in the Amazon.

Footage of the ‘burning UFO’ appeared on Peruvian news site Canaln last week.

In the minute-long clip, a bright oval disc was seen travelling through the air shortly after sunset.

It appeared to light up the darkened sky around it as it moved through the air before disappearing behind a row of trees.

The Daily Mail reported that while the object hasn’t been identified, there has been speculation about what it could be.

“A similar object was reportedly seen by those living in the Peruvian Highlands and Amazon but it was said to have been a Project Loon balloon. Project Loon, created by X (formerly Google X), is designed to provide internet access to remote regions of the world with the help of balloons. The polyethylene balloons carrying specialist equipment drift to the edge of space and help to transmit signal from ground stations, which in turn gives better connectivity to remote areas of the world,” the Mail reported.

However, there has been no confirmation from Project Loon about whether the ‘burning UFO’ was in fact one of their balloons.

UFO blogger Scott C Waring wrote: “A UFO was recorded over Lima, Peru this week and in the recording we see a street light suddenly light up.

“Coincidence? Probably not, since hundreds of UFO reports report electrical problems when the UFO was near. This is important evidence that this object was a UFO.”

Larry Mawell posted on “UFO? Sure. But the light likely turns on at dusk. Would have been more impressed if ONLY that light turned on.”
