Lightning kills 4 as rain, hailstorm lash MP

Bhopal: About four people died and five were injured when lightning struck in different parts of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday. The weather changed dramatically in the morning with clouds covering the sky.

Hailstorm coupled with rains and gusty winds lashed Bhopal, Betul, Satna, Multai, Chhindwara, Gwalior, Narsingpur, Dabara on Sunday. Hailstorm damaged standing rabi crops like wheat, grams, pea and masur.

Two farmers, Baniya (25) and Chiddi (17) died and four others were injured after lightning struck. Baniya and Chiddi were irrigating their farm in Majra, Pilua village in Morena district. The injured- Bharat and Dhruv – were admitted in Morena district hospital. All of them belong to Kushwaha community.

Similarly, Dabara residents Indal Singh Jathav and Motiram died due lightning. Rampal Bundeja, Mangal Singh, Ghanshyam Kewat were injured. They have been admitted in district hospital.

According to meteorological department, hailstorm coupled with gusty winds and rains occurred due to an upper air trough running from Assam to south-eastern parts of Bangladesh. Another upper air trough is seen extending from Lakshadweep to Karnataka coast. The western disturbance lies over northern parts of Pakistan and adjoining region.
