Don’t work at officers’ residences, chairman tells railway employees

BHOPAL : Railway Board chairman Ashwani Lohani visited Bhopal railway station and Habibganj railway station on Saturday to inspect various facilities. During course of inspection, Lohani asked the contractor about ‘Drop-n-Go’ road. The contractor explained the map and other details of building.

A multi-storeyed building has been constructed adjacent to platform number 6 of Bhopal Railway station and is named as ‘Drop-n-Go’ road.

Lohani inaugurated the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)-SBI counter at platform number 1. He also viewed the escalator and lift installed there. He visited Child Help Centre meant for children abandoned at railway platforms.

Lohani instructed staff members not to work at residence of any official. He said they will lose their job if they do so.  Lohani issued this warning when employees met him to redress their grievances.

Loco-pilots and other employees expressed their problems. WCR Promotee Officers Association submitted memorandum to Lohani regarding their problems.

Chairman Ashwani Lohani, while interacting with media, said, “Focus will be on sanitation and safety. I have instructed to speed up development, renovation work at Bhopal railway station and it will be completed by March 2019. Similarly, Bairagarh station, which has been included in Bhopal circle will be upgraded to divert trains from Bhopal railway stations to reduce pressure. Environment officers have been appointed to look into environment affairs.”

Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani said, “The development and renovation work will be done by railway and railway will not outsource it.” Tender was floated for Bhopal railway station renovation but now railway has decided to do its own.  Habibganj railway station development work has been outsourced.
